Our trip to the Whitney museum

When the weather turns too cold to stroll around New York, we love checking out the city's many amazing art museums. We took a trip recently to the Whitney Museum of Art in downtown New York City. The Whitney has been around for decades, but it only recently reopened in a new building on the west side, that has amazing views over the Hudson River to our home state of New Jersey.

The current exhibit at the Whitney is devoted to an amazing artists named Frank Stella, who makes very colorful paintings and three-dimensional sculptures. We both loved this exhibit and took a bunch of pictures of ourselves in front of the artwork.

Here's Chris in front of a painting / sculpture inspired by Moby Dick.

This amazing sculpture it on the outdoor deck of the Whitney. It looks even bigger in person.

Weekend cooking

Chris' favorite time of the weekend is Saturday morning, when he spends a few hours trying out new recipes and making a complete mess of the kitchen. (This is Nate's least favorite time of the weekend — he's the one who usually ends up cleaning up after Chris.)

Lately Chris has been on a roll, and here are a few of his latest efforts:

Above is oatmeal praline, which Chris made by baking oats and then pouring burnt sugar on top. This is just one of the ingredients for homemade oatmeal raisin ice-cream.

Above is homemade spinach pasta, which Chris made by blending cooked spinach with egg and flour.

But though Chris does most of the cooking, occasionally Nate serves up a few of his favorites, too.

Here is a homemade pizza he made, with tomato sauce (a lot of tomato sauce — Nate likes extra), mozzarella, onions and broccoli).

And here's Nate with his favorite vegetable, Brussels sprouts, still on the stalk. Nate likes these so much that we even have a photograph of a giant Brussels sprout on our living room wall.

Our neighborhood and home

We live in New Jersey on a historic street lined with brownstones and trees. We love spending the weekends exploring our neighborhood, which has amazing views of the New York City skyline.

We're only a ten minute train ride to Manhattan, so we also spend a lot of time attending Broadway plays and trying new restaurants.

The other member of our family is Tucker, our 8-year-old Jack Russell terrier. Tucker is incredibly affectionate and patient with children. He particularly loves trips to the dog park. Like a lot of kids, though, he hates taking baths.
